Titles that Library Staffed Loved in Audiobook Format

May 24 2022

One of the greatest discoveries that the LLBCL Staff made in recent years was audio-books. In fact the Library Director is a big fan of audiobooks read by actors who add distinct voices to each character and loves it when the same person narrates an entire series.

With your library card you can listen to audiobooks on CD format, place a hold a a playaway, sign out Daisy disks (for print disabled members only), and explore an extensive collection of eAudiobooks that can be downloaded to your device or computer and listen without ever having to leave your house. Note: eAudiobooks automatically return on their due date so you’ll never have to worry about returning your items.

Staff Recommended Audiobooks (in random order):

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TK Klune

"Linus Baker is a by-the-book case worker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. He would do anything to keep the children safe, even if it means the world will burn. And his secrets will come to light. The House in the Cerulean Sea is an enchanting love story, masterfully told, about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours."

His Majesty Dragon by Naomi Novik

"Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors rise to Britain’s defense by taking to the skies . . . not aboard aircraft but atop the mighty backs of fighting dragons. When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes its precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Capt. Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future–and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature. Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire."

This would be a suicide task for anyone, let alone a reluctant sixteen-year-old girl with no training."

The Moonlight Child

"A gripping and emotional novel that will leave you wondering about the neighbors next door... On a cold January night, Sharon Lemke heads outside to see a lunar eclipse when she notices something odd at the house behind her backyard. Through her neighbor's kitchen window, she sees what appears to be a little girl washing dishes late at night. But the Fleming family doesn't have a child that age, and even if they did, why would she be doing housework at this late hour? It would be easy for Sharon to just let this go, but when 18-year-old Niki, a former foster child, comes to live with Sharon, she notices suspicious activity at the Flemings' house as well. When calling social services doesn't result in swift action, the two decide to investigate on their own."

Sophia and Kate, also best friends, have each other’s backs—and yet they want different things from life. Sophia, a romantic, more elegant, dreams of entering court and finding a noble to fall in love with. Kate, a fighter, dreams of mastering the sword, of battling dragons, and becoming a warrior.
