Truth and Reconciliation Day

Lac La Biche County Libraries will be closed on Saturday, Sep. 30th-Monday, Oct. 2nd, in observance of Truth and Reconciliation. We will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd at 9:00am. We thank you for your understanding.

Library Con 2024

Thank you to everyone who made our 2023 Library Con such a success. We had 162 attendees, vendors, volunteers, and staff at our main branch on Saturday, Jan 7th.

Library Con 2024

Lac La Biche County Libraries presents the Library Con theme for 2024: Science Fiction.

Throw on an out of this world costume and visit Stuart MacPherson Public Library on Saturday, January 6th from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM and join us for all the Sci-Fi activities.   

Go on a space travel quest, make cool unique crafts, participate in the costume contest, and have a blast playing laser tag.

Vendors will be present!! Please check back often for updated information on who will be attending.

Sci-fi Video Contest

Enter in our sci-fi video contest!! Create a sci-fi video and submit by January 4th for a chance to win $80 Boston Pizza gift card, along with a family pass (up to 5 people living in the same residence, 2 adults max) to Portage Pool.  There are 3 different age categories for the contest: Child (12 years & under), Youth (13-17 years), and Adult (18 years & over). Winners will be chosen by Viewer’s Choice and contest will end at 3 PM on January 6th. 

Contest Rules:

  • Video must be no longer than 5 minutes
  • Absolutely no profane language, sexualized content, dangerous stunts, or extreme violence may be used
  • No material that is likely to cause offence to any person or to injure the name, reputation

or standing of any person in any way, directly or indirectly

  • Under no circumstances can alterations be made to videos once entered
  • No copyrighted materials (music, images, video clips, etc.) may be used in any way
  • File type submitted must be MP4 and uploaded via entry link (no USB submissions)
  • The closing date of the competition is January 4th, 2023 at midnight

2023 Library Con: Renaissance

Thank you to everyone who made our 2023 Library Con such a success. We had 162 attendees, vendors, volunteers, and staff at our main branch on Saturday, Jan 7th.

Lac La Biche County Libraries presents the Library Con theme for 2023: Renaissance.

Throw on a costume and visit Stuart MacPherson Public Library on Saturday, January 7th from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM and join us for renaissance themed activities.   

Go on a treasure quest, make cool unique crafts, participate in the costume contest, and have your fortune told by Chelsie Chiplin (owner Restore Wellness) as she consults her mystical tarot and oracle cards.

Our Vendors will be peddling their wares, trinkets and services!! Please check back often for updated information on who will be attending.

And of course no Renaissance Fair would be complete without a visit from royalty! The enchanting  Mermaid Princess and Beauty Princess from A Charmed Affair will be holding court with all their library subjects from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.

  • Heather Hamilton - Chain maille jewellery and crocheted dolls and toys.

Poetry Contest

Enter in our poem writing contest!! Write a poem about life during the Renaissance period and submit by January 6th for a chance to win 2 large pizzas (Boston Pizza) and a 2L pop, along with a family pass (up to 5 people living in the same residence, 2 adults max) to Portage Pool.  There are 4 different age categories for the contest: Mini (8 years & under), Junior (9-12 years), Youth (13-17 years), and Adult (18 years & over). Winners will be chosen by Viewer’s Choice and contest will end at 3 PM on January 7th.  To submit your poem just click on the following link or hand in a physical copy at the Stuart MacPherson Public Library front desk.

Contest Rules:

  • Poem must be no larger than one 8.5" x 11" piece of paper.
  • Absolutely no profane language may be used.
  • The poet's name must not appear on the poem itself.
  • The closing date of the competition is January 6th, 2023 at midnight.
  • Under no circumstances can alterations be made to poems once entered.
  • Physical entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy.
  • Poems must be the entrant’s original work.
  • Acceptable formats are Microsoft Word or PDF.
